Coming Soon…

To Prince Edward Island--Alex ColvilleI’d said in August that my posting schedule would drop and it did. I only posted 11 whisky reviews—the overall numbers were higher due to a higher than usual number of restaurant reports (from our recent trip to Los Angeles). The number of whisky reviews is unlikely to rise very much in September. And while I will not have quite as many restaurant reports every month as I did last month, I am more and more beginning to think of this as not just a whisky blog (and thanks to Heavy Table for listing me among their Minnesota food and drink blogs). Here is a brief overview of what you can expect in September.

On the whisky front: a number of reviews of “standard” malts. As with a number of whisky blogs my reviewing has often skewed towards the esoteric and I am looking forward to returning to a number of the malts I drank regularly when I was new to single malt whisky (and many of which I have not tried very often since) as well as some other entry-level malts. I’ll be reviewing other stuff too. Here is what’s on deck:

Ancient Age
Ardbeg “Ardbog”
Balvenie 12 Double Wood
Bowmore 11, 2002 (Exclusive Malts for K&L)
Clynelish 14
Dewar’s White Label
Glenfiddich 12
Hakushu 18
Highland Park 12
Lagavulin 16
Laphroaig 10
Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014
Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Octomore 5.1
Port Charlotte PC 8
Tomatin 12
Yoichi 20
Yoichi 20, Genshu Cask 100126

Feel free to nominate some you’d like to see reviewed for sure.

On the food front: Over the next few months I will be doing a slow-motion survey of Indian/South Asian restaurants in the greater Twin Cities metro area. I’m generally dismissive of the state of Indian food in the US (see my comments here and here) and thought it was time I confirmed whether that attitude is still well-founded (at least here in Minnesota). The following restaurants will be visited and reviewed over the next few months:

Bawarchi (Plymouth)
Biryani (Edina)
Copper Pot (Minneapolis)
Dosa King (Spring Lake Park)
Gandhi Mahal (Minneapolis)
House of Curry (Rosemount)
Malabari Kitchen (Minneapolis)

If you have any favourites that are not listed here please nominate them below and I’ll see about adding them to the list.

  1. Looks like a good mix of official bottlings, including a few special editions–always interesting to hear others’ opinions of malts I’m very familiar with. I’m also interested in hearing more about the K&L Bowmore. I’ll be interested in hearing about your local restaurants too.

  2. Still waiting for your review on the Longmorn from Alambique Classique, you’ve mentioned a few times as “coming up”. …. Or isn’t it worth writing a review about?
