May/June 2025

I somehow didn’t notice that I’d left this post in draft status over the weekend. You’ve probably been beside yourself wondering what the most-read posts on my blog in May were and what I might be posting about in June. I understand and apologize for the pain you have experienced. But here is all that information now. I would advise reading it slowly and in pieces, not trying to take it all in at once. There’s no sense in risking further harm.

I’d reported in the previous installment of this series that both page-view and unique user counts had been down in April. Well, they picked up a little bit in May but not a lot. As to whether the drastically-lowered pace of my postings is leading to people in checking in less frequently or it’s just another symptom of the fallen world we live in, I don’t know. I can’t promise you that things will be very different in June. Well, they might be a little different towards the end of the month (see below). But first let’s see what things looked like in May.

The top 10 most-read posts last month were the following:

  1. Eating at Mercato Centrale (Florence, June 2023)
  2. Bukhara (Delhi, March 2022)
  3. In and Around Mangwon Market (Seoul, March 2024)
  4. Trattoria Monti (Rome, June 2023)
  5. At Namdaemun Market, Pt. 2: Eating (Seoul, March 2023)5
  6. Grand Szechuan, April 2025 (Bloomington, MN)
  7. Indri-Trini, The Three Wood
  8. Myriel II (St. Paul, MN)
  9. Eating at Noryangjin Fish Market (Seoul, Feb/March 2024)
  10. Lunch at the Kalguksu Alley in Namdaemun Market (Seoul, March 2023)

In other words, it’s a list of mostly the usual suspects. The only posts made in May that cracked the top 10 were my reviews of our lunch at Grand Szechuan in mid-April and of our second dinner at Myriel at the start of May. My review of Taqueria Los Paisanos managed to crack the top 25 despite being posted with only a few days left to go in the month. As to whether it will have enough steam to make the top 10 in June remains to be seen. I’m not surprised to see reviews of the Italian spots rising up the charts with tourist season in full swing: several of my other Italian reviews from 2023 were also in the top 25.

So, what can you expect to see on the restaurant review front in June? Given the delay with this post, I’ll post my Twin Cities review this week not on Wednesday as per usual, but on Thursday. That will be of a recent dinner at Bucheron in Minneapolis. In a couple of weekends we’ll be eating once again at Tenant and so there’ll be a review of that as well. I’m not sure if I’ll have any other reviews from the Twin Cities this month or indeed the next. The upcoming is going to be a busy weekend for us and it’s possible we won’t be able to squeeze any eating out into it. Later, we’ll be setting off on some East Asian travel and I don’t think our house-sitters will be up for the challenge of keeping the Twin Cities food coverage going while I’m away. But there’s a good chance there will be at least a couple of reports from those travels at the end of the month, specifically from Tokyo—so if that interests you, check back then.

On the booze front, I didn’t post a review this Monday because there are four Mondays in June and I now only open/review four bottles a month. You can therefore expect a booze review on each of the remaining Mondays in June. As for cooking, Instagram is where I continue to post that stuff.
