Whisky Reviews

This page lists all the whiskies I have reviewed in alphabetical order. It may be of more use to someone checking to see if I have reviewed a specific whisky than clicking on the category links.

The reviews are mostly sorted by region and then by distillery/brand. In most cases brands made at the same distillery are listed under that distillery (thus Octomore and Port Charlotte are under Bruichladdich and Hazelburn and Longrow under Springbank). Exceptions are made for brands that seem to me to have distinct enough identities that casual drinkers may not know that they are from the same distillery (Ledaig and Tobermory, in my view); also where I only have a review of a sub-brand made at a particular distillery I have used the brand’s name, not the distillery (thus a listing for Old Rhosdhu rather than Loch Lomond). In the foggy case of American whiskey I have stuck largely with actual distilleries with exceptions made only for NDP brands (Jefferson’s) or brands that have identities very distinct from their current sources of production (Van Winkle). And Japanese blends get their own entries. Wasn’t this explanation so necessary and fascinating??!!

If you see an empty category it means a review is queued up for that category but has not yet been posted. The “Mutant” sub-category under “Blended/Vatted” lists my own home-blending/vatting experiments.

  1. I love your Chickpea-Potato “Chaat” post; it’s how I found your blog (because I love Rancho Gordo beans and I follow them on Facebook). My husband is a new fan of a nice, little occasional sip of Stagg Jr. Glad to see there are many other options, since Stagg seems to be rather hard to come by….
