Eating Out in India

It’s been a long time since I’ve updated these pages beyond the automatically populated lists of reviews. When I first posted this index of my reviews of restaurants in India, I was only visiting once every two years or so, usually with my partner and our kids in tow. Since the pandemic the frequency of my visits has increased dramatically. Of late I’ve been going to Delhi three times a year. Once every other year I now spend five weeks in Bombay on an off-campus program. My family only accompanies me once every other year.

All of this means that the number of my restaurant reports from India has dramatically increased in the last few years. And so I’m slowly making this list more user-friendly. As a start, in early August 2026, I’ve separated the Delhi NCR (National Capital Region) reports out by broad geography: Central Delhi, South Delhi, Gurgaon, and NOIDA. I’ve further broken my reports from the North Eastern enclave of Humayunpur—which is also located in South Delhi—into its own section. Of course, people may quibble with some justification about where I’ve placed some places: are Pragati Maidan and the Khan Market area in South or Central Delhi? Is the embassy/state bhavan enclave of Chanakyapuri in Central Delhi? And so on. Please don’t take these things too seriously. The point is just to make the list easier to navigate for someone actually looking to use it to figure out where to eat in Delhi. [Please keep in mind that some of these restaurants have since closed and in a couple of cases have turned into cloud kitchens.]

Later, I will separate the Bombay reports out into sub-sections as well. And I need to add an “Elsewhere in India” section for meals eaten in Coonoor and environs.
