July/August 2025

It’s been a very busy month and a half. We left for Japan towards the end of June, visiting Tokyo and Kyoto. From Japan we made our way to South Korea for a week in Seoul. From Seoul we traveled to Delhi. Finally, a little over two weeks after that, we returned to Minnesota, having literally gone all the way around the world.

In Japan we were tourists; in Seoul the missus and I were working; in Delhi we were visiting family and helping sort out a number of issues with my parents’ health. Through it all we ate quite well. I’m almost halfway through my reports from Japan; there’s a bunch from Seoul to follow as well. We didn’t eat out quite as much in Delhi but I have a few more from there as well to come. I know I say this after every trip and then fail to follow through, but I’m going to try to get these reports done as quickly as I can. What this means is that for the next few months you can probably expect four restaurant reports each week—with Twin Cities metro reports returning soon as well. You can also expect my weekly booze reviews—which were on hiatus in July—to start back up next week.

Okay, now that I’m done looking forward, let’s take a look back at July on the blog. Here were the top 10 most-read posts for the month:

  1. Bukhara (Delhi, March 2022)
  2. Indri-Trini, The Three Wood
  3. The Twin Cities Fine Dining Rotation
  4. Eating at Mercato Centrale (Florence, June 2023)
  5. Bucheron (Minneapolis)
  6. A Highly Subjective Ranking of Indian Restaurants in the Twin Cities Metro Area
  7. Trattoria Monti (Rome, June 2023)
  8. In and Around Mangwon Market (Seoul, March 2024)
  9. Diane’s Place (Minneapolis, MN)
  10. The Bombay Canteen (Bombay, January 2024)

Most of the usual fixtures of the list are on there. They were joined by three newcomers in July: my reviews of Diane’s Place in Minneapolis and The Bombay Canteen in Bombay, and the first edition of my Twin Cities Fine Dining Rotation List (I’ll have an update later this year). Just outside the top 10 were two more Twin Cities reports (Jade Dynasty and Mandalay Kitchen) and also the first of my (incomplete) guides to regional Indian cookbooks. Why that list should have suddenly become popular again, I don’t know. Anyway, I’ll be curious to see if my Japan reports become as popular as my reports from Italy in 2023 and Seoul from 2023 and 2024—it certainly never happened for my Dublin reports from 2023 (or for most of my California reports over the years).

Alright, here’s to the last month of the summer!
