Coming Soon…

Here is the long list of what I hope will be coming soon in the month of May. Almost all of these are from samples received in swaps, as I really need to get the mushrooming sample “library” under control. If I drink them up I won’t have to inventory them. I’m also trying to reduce the number of open bottles on my shelves. I currently have more than 60 open bottles and would really like to get well below 40.

Allt-A-Bhainne 21, 1992 (Cadenhead’s)
Ardbeg Supernova, 2009
Ardbeg Supernova, 2010
Benriach Solstice 17, 2nd Ed., Peated, Port Finish
The Black Grouse
Four Roses Small Batch, Ltd. Edition 2010
Glendronach 33, Generations (Duncan Taylor)
Green Spot
High West Rye 21 yo
High West Double Rye
Jameson Gold Reserve
Laphroaig 15
“Mystery Spirit” (an undisclosed sample from Florin)
Octomore 6.1
Pappy Van Winkle 15, Fall 2011 release
Mackinlay’s Shackleton Zombie Malt, 1st. Edition
Talisker 25, 2004 release
Talisker 25, 2012 release
Tamdhu 22, 1991, Port Cask (Cadenhead’s)
Tomatin 11, 2002 (for Edina Liquors)

More American and Irish whiskey this month and also a couple of blends. And not very many indies. Will I get to them all? Who knows? I only have one already written up. So depending on whether clogs in my sinuses or my schedule intervene or not I may have anywhere between 1 and 20 reviews this month. If there are any that you’re particularly interested in please make nominations. Alas, no steady diet of simultaneous reviews with Michael Kravitz this month–at least none that are already set up. He does have some of Florin’s “Mystery Spirit” as well and a couple of the others are from splits he is part of too, so we may well schedule some.

Other than reviews I have nothing even potentially controversial planned, but the month is young and the whisky world seems to have an infinite capacity for folly….

There’ll also be a few restaurant meal write-ups as per usual and I might even have a non-restaurant food-related post or two–apologies in advance to those of you who have no interest in this stuff.

  1. I’d be interested in the Green Spot review–I haven’t had a chance to taste it yet. I’m familiar with the first release of Shackleton’s and would be interested in your opinion of it. I find the food posts interesting too. Thanks!

    • I wrote down my notes on Green Spot last night. I was originally planning on tasting the Jameson Gold right after but after the Green Spot debacle (spoiler alert for those with the good taste to not follow me on Twitter) needed something guaranteed to be good and so ended up drinking some Four Roses Small Batch Ltd. 2012 instead.

  2. Now I’m feeling bad about providing you with the greenspot. But I do await your annoying opinion.
Btw, if that benriach solstice is the sample from me, it’s the 2nd ed. Apologies if I wrote 1st!

  3. The Green Spot, the Benriach* and the Tamdhu are on deck for the coming week.

*And the sample label does say 2nd Ed.–I just didn’t read carefully.
